The Investment Relationship

We view portfolio management as a process that helps clients meet their goals for protecting and enhancing their wealth. This involves knowing and understanding the client, defining investment objectives, establishing an investment plan and managing the portfolio toward meeting return objectives. Often investment management responsibility involves family trusts established as part of a family estate plan, and the investment management process must be undertaken to fulfill the purpose of each trust and the estate plan as a whole. Whether for a single portfolio or portfolios of a complex estate plan, communication with clients, portfolio review, re-evaluation and course correction are continuous and evolving in order to accommodate changing circumstances and needs.

An essential element in the investment process is effective communication between investment and trust managers and clients. We recommend quarterly or semi-annual personal meetings. Reports on securities holdings, account activity and investment performance, measured against appropriate benchmarks, are reviewed with clients monthly or quarterly as desired.
